Letting Our Story Speak From Its Pages - funded by the RI Campus Compact and Raise Your Voice Civic Engagement Fund - will give students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to document, share and voice how being at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) has affected them socially, intellectually and artistically. This project will demonstrate how each individual voice can make an impact on RISD’s future decisions. I believe that this act of sharing one’s experiences verbally or visually can be an effective way to help people express themselves, open-up to others, gain visibility, break barriers, and discover that they are not alone within this often demanding and challenging environment.
Here are some sample questions that can be used to help describe your experience:
- Has your experience been rewarding? Challenging?
- Do you have difficulty adjusting to this environment?
- Is this environment what you expected it to be?
- Do you feel like your voice is heard within the RISD community?
- Do you feel isolated or do you feel “right at home”?
- Do you feel like you belong?
- Have you met others within the community that share a similar experience? Or do you think your experience is unique from everyone else?
